BRASSTASTIC
Brasstastic is Steve Donegan, Norbert Ziegler, Jon Candel, Heidi Worrall and Alana Johnson. In 2013, five friends got together on a mission to make great music. Since then, they have had guest appearances with several community ensembles, including the University of Victoria Wind Symphony, the Greater Victoria Concert Band, and the Victoria Philharmonic Choir. They can be found around the community performing in schools, at the airport, at church services and recitals, or having some fun busking around Victoria. Their repertoire spans from Gabrieli to Lady Gaga to Ewald to New Orleans inspired jazz. Brasstastic is passionate about music education and introducing young musicians to quality small ensemble music.

We enjoyed an amazing week in Kitimat, performing, mentoring, and collaborating with many fabulous music educators and young musicians. Thank you Kitimat Arts For Youth Council for making our week so amazing! Check out our Facebook page for some photos from the trip.
We have said a fond farewell to Liam, one of our founding members. He is deeply missed as he adventures in Toronto, but we are so glad to have Heidi Worrall with us! We look forward to hearing about Liam's future successes as a musician and to having Heidi bring her skills and personality to our ensemble!

Summer is coming to a close and we are looking forward to some exciting adventures over the next few months!
St. Andrew's Cathedral is celebrating its 125th anniversary and we get to be a part of it! On Sunday, September 10, experience the vibrant collaboration of Brasstastic, the Victoria Brass Quintet, and organ as we play works by Pachelbel, Gabireli, Handel and others. If you like brass, this is the place to be! Admission is by donation.

We had a blast playing at Nathan and Meghan's wedding in October and we've each been active in other ensembles around town, like Meridiem Wind Orchestra, Victoria Jazz Orchestra and Sidney Classical Orchestra. Brasstastic is getting ready for an afternoon recital in memory of Gene Dowling, Kory's late tuba professor at the University of Victoria. Gene was an active member of St. George's Anglican Church in Cadboro Bay which is where the recital will be held. Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to the Eugene Dowling Scholarship at UVic which supports tuba and euphonium students at the university. All are welcome!!
